Alhaji Yakubu Ayaana, a 65-year-old Tamale philanthropist, has made great strides in his quest to commemorate President-elect John Dramani Mahama after his triumph in the 2024 presidential election by traveling from Kumasi to Greater Accra.
Alhaji Ayaana has made it into the Greater Accra Region on the second day of his trip. On January 7, 2025, he is anticipated to arrive in Accra in time for Mahama's inauguration. Alhaji Ayaana started this incredible, more than 250-kilometer journey by driving to Kumasi and then continuing on foot to pay a personal homage to the incoming president.
After completing a 19-kilometer health walk from Tamale's Yakubu Tali International Airport to Jubilee Park, which is also in Tamale, Alhaji Yakubu declared his plans to embark on this journey on December 21, the day after Mahama's victory.
On December 21, the day after Mahama's victory, Alhaji Yakubu announced his intention to start the voyage after finishing a 19-kilometer health walk from Tamale's Yakubu Tali International Airport to Jubilee Park, which is also in Tamale.
Similar symbolic voyages have been undertaken by Alhaji Yakubu in the past. He reportedly walked in 1997 to commemorate the inauguration of former President Jerry John Rawlings' second term.
In order to promote health and national unity, he also planned a 16-kilometer peace and health walk in Tamale on Independence Day in 1999.
