As reported on Monday, December 23, 2024, Ernest Owusu-Bempah, the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) deputy national communications officer, expressed disappointment over his party's resounding loss in the general election held on December 7, 2024. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeated the NPP by more than 1.5 million votes in the presidential election, and the party also lost a large number of parliamentary seats—roughly 50 out of 137. In a candid interview with Kwesi Parker-Wilson on Oyerepa TV, Owusu-Bempah blamed the NPP's collapse on a combination of internal issues and voter indifference.
Several members of the party's campaign staff, he said, were unfit for their positions. He said, "Square pegs were put in round holes," signifying that team members were not in line with the demands of the campaign. The party's emphasis on building roads and bridges, according to Owusu-Bempah, did not appeal to voters, who required a more compelling political agenda. Owusu-Bempah also disclosed that he was frequently marginalized and unable to devote himself entirely to the party's agenda. He claimed that a lot of his projects were private and unrelated to the party's overarching plan, and he regretted that his efforts to rally support had been met with resistance.
He said, "I was crippled not to work," expressing his annoyance at not being able to use his abilities to support the party. The tense relationships within the NPP were also discussed in the interview; Owusu-Bempah gave examples of important party leaders failing to even return calls to resolve internal issues.
