Deputy Minister Ekow Vincent Assafuah has accused Quaicoo, also known as Oboy, of being the possible mastermind of the destructive fire. Speaking impassionedly on Asempa FM, the Deputy Minister implied that the act was not arbitrary but rather highly political, driven by tensions following the recent general elections. Mr. Assafuah bemoaned the disruption of the market's togetherness, saying, "Anyone who knows Kantamanto will tell you that these are people who live as one community." The polling agent for the opposition NDC, Quaicoo, he disclosed, had lately fallen on hard feet after a divorce, leaving him financially reliant on market associates.
He continued, letting the ramifications boil, "But because of politicking." The situation was further agitated by eyewitness reports. Mr. Assafuah revealed, "A woman at Kantamanto told me that on Wednesday at around 11 p.m., she saw this man passing by, and shortly after, the market was in flames." "I will keep the name of the person who provided this information private in order to protect their identity." The market community has been affected by these accusations, which has made traders who have lost everything even more distraught. Although the urgent need for recovery takes precedence over the source of the fire for many, the story of sabotage has left a sour aftertaste.
