In an effort to recover campaign pickup trucks from its parliamentary candidates, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has launched a statewide operation. NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong directed all parliamentary candidates to turn over the cars to their respective constituency executive committees in a letter dated December 20, 2024. This action comes after the candidates promised to release the cars following the conclusion of the campaign, which took place on December 9, 2024. The NPP leadership has praised the candidates for running a successful and nonviolent campaign and has thanked them for their assistance in making sure that party directions are carried out without a hitch.
In Ghanaian politics, campaign car retrievals are not unusual. Some candidates were charged for selling or retaining campaign cars for their own use following the 2020 elections. The NPP has shown its dedication to accountability and openness by deciding to recover its campaign vehicles. The vehicles will be maintained and used for party activities by the constituency executive committees, which the party's parliamentary candidates have been directed to turn over to them. It is anticipated that this action will guarantee effective use of resources and fortify the party's grassroots organization.
