The Ghana Police Service has now detained nine more suspects in relation to violent attacks that have been recorded across, increasing the total number of arrests since the elections on December 7 to 106.
The Police issued a statement pointing to a string of illegal occurrences and warning that if attacks on offices and property continue, they may use force. Numerous disruptions are allegedly the work of alleged National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathizers.
These [include] the assault on the Ghana Gas offices, the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority, and the Passport Office, where a large crowd gathered to demand employment. In the afternoon, crowds gathered at cantonments, which the police were able to disperse, according to the statement. At a press conference in Accra, Police Director of Public Affairs ACP Grace Ansah Akrofi disclosed a concerning event in which suspected NDC sympathizers stormed into a police station and released detained individuals. "The Police are on a manhunt for the freed suspects," she stated.
According to reports, one soldier was hurt during an attack at the Ghana Gas office when security guards were attacked. To restore peace and order in the impacted areas, the Ghana Armed Forces and the Police have been called in. ACP Akrofi emphasized the repercussions of any disturbance and strongly advised those engaged in the violence to stop their actions right away. "The police have not yet used any firearms to disperse crowds, but they will not think twice about doing so if the situation gets out of control," she said.
In an effort to preserve peace and stability throughout the country, authorities have asked the populace to keep composure and assist with security forces.
