The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government, headed by President Akuffo Addo and Dr. Bawumia, has allegedly purposefully refused development projects to constituencies represented by NDC members of parliament, according to Professor Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) vice presidential candidate. She made the remark as she began her tour of the Upper West Region by visiting the palace of the Wa Naa, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV.
She clarified that while the NPP government had taken a discriminatory stance, giving preference to areas that support them, the NDC was dedicated to inclusive development. President Akuffo Addo's comments during his tour to flood-affected districts in the Volta Region on Monday, October 16, 2023, were cited by the NDC vice presidential candidate as unmistakable proof that the NPP administration purposefully ignores voters who have not supported them.
Since the impacted communities do not support his political party, the NPP, the president acknowledged on that date that he would not have traveled to the region if it were only determined by votes. After many residents lost their livelihoods due to the floods, the affected communities later complained of neglect as they battled to make ends meet. Ghanaians strongly denounced the president's remark.
Because their residents voted for the NDC, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang contended, this mindset has caused the majority of constituencies to witness little to no growth and possibilities from the state for eight years. "Our opponent doesn't always take care of everyone, in contrast to the NDC. They have already explained to us why they don't pay attention to those who don't vote for them. This implies that our parliamentary candidates have endured hardships for the past eight years. It indicates that because they supported the NDC, they were deprived of all the options available to them.
Regardless of their political affiliations, she reassured Ghanaians that the NDC will not be discouraged by such discriminatory practices and will keep pushing for inclusive development that benefits all residents. She asked voters to support Mr. John Dramani Mahama, the NDC's presidential candidate, in the general elections scheduled for December 7. Voting for Mr. Mahama and the NDC, according to Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, would aid in resetting the nation for the good of all Ghanaians.
