Rapper Sarkodie has received a severe seven-day ultimatum from Prophet Mensah, who demands that he apologize to President John Dramani Mahama for a recent statement that the prophet believes was made in the president's direction. Following his return to office after eight years, Sarkodie's mysterious Instagram post on January 8, 2025, which stated, "Back to Gari soakings like we never left," has generated a lot of conjecture, with many people taking it as a swipe at Mahama. Prophet Mensah is shown in a video posted on X carrying out a theatrical rite in which he boils herbs in a plastic pail over a fire.
Using the fire as a metaphor, he threatened to spiritually impoverish the rapper and his family if Sarkodie didn't apologize. Debates concerning Sarkodie's political ties and his history of using music to critique economic struggles have been rekindled by the statement. From 2013 to 2016, Sarkodie was outspoken about his displeasure with Mahama's government, bringing up topics such as inflation in his songs. However, he has been accused of political prejudice and association with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by critics for his silence on similar issues during the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration (2017–2024). Social media users' responses to the rapper's post have been conflicted; some have defended him, while others have accused him of partisanship.
