Unexpectedly, the Electoral Commission has ruled that Phillip Appiah Kubi, better known as Roman Fada, who was chosen to represent Akua Donkor, is unable to run for president in 2024. "Errors and illegalities" on his nomination forms were the stated cause. There is more to the story than meets the eye, according to a recent video that has gone viral.
The video claims that two politicians, Dzataba and Akpaloo, made Roman Fada an incredible offer: 5 billion Ghanaian cedis in exchange for his decision to abstain from the election and back Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP. Adhering to the values of the late Madam Akua Donkor, who trusted him to continue the Ghana Freedom Party's (GFP) goal, Roman Fada allegedly declined. And the man's claim that he has proof to back up his statement is what makes these accusations so explosive. "I wouldn't lie about this," he states, "because if this goes to court, I can't afford to make false statements" . Many have questioned the timing of Roman Fada's disqualification in light of this news, which has caused controversy.
According to others, Roman Fada may have been disqualified in a "convenient" way because he refused to accept the purported bribe. Given the turbulent election season for the GFP, the Electoral Commission's decision has drawn criticism. Following the premature death of Akua Donkor, Roman Fada was selected as the party's presidential candidate. Roman Fada's disqualification will have a big impact on the 2024 presidential race. The Electoral Commission will still produce ballots in spite of this setback, and the positions of the candidates will not alter. One thing is certain as the electoral situation develops further: Ghanaians expect their leaders to be open and accountable.
