The transition team of John Mahama's Transition team (President-Elect) has received a response from the Transition Team for Government of Ghana on behalf of President Akufo Addo. They claim that both teams concurred that the current hiring and payment practices are lawful because they have obtained the necessary statutory permits.
The following is a press release that the Government Transition Team's spokesperson, Fatimatu Abubakar, signed: The following choices were made by the Transition Committee during its second meeting, which was held today, December 13, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Center. 1. The creation of six (6) more subcommittees: Infrastructure, Legal and Governance, Energy and Natural Resources, Finance and Economy, Interior/Public Safety (Security), and Social Sector.
2. Three (3) nominations each from the departing and incoming administrations make up the membership of the various subcommittees, with the Cabinet Secretary, Head of Civil Service, and Head of Local Government Service joining any committee when called upon. 3. The Co-Chairs also instructed that the subcommittee chairs get the notes so that work can start right now. Within a week, the first piece of work should be completed. 4. When discussing the handover notes presented by their respective sectors, the subcommittees will also be asked for assistance from departing Sector Ministers, Heads of Agencies, and Technical Staff.
5. It was mentioned that the Government's term ends at midnight on January 6, 2025, which raises worries for ongoing hiring and payments. These hiring procedures and compensation have been approved by the appropriate statutes and have not been shown to be unlawful.
In order to make a decision, it was agreed that the Transition Committee should be notified of any specific allegations of illegality pertaining to any specific recruitment or payment. Because it does not match the meeting's records, the committee warned the public to ignore any comments that claimed to show that the committee had decided that all continuing payments and hiring should be directed to the transition team.
