For more than a century, the Bawku chieftaincy struggle has plagued Ghana's northern region, but Nana Kwame Bediako, also referred to as "Cheddar," discovered a long-term solution. In an Edhub social media post on their X platform, "Cheddar" was shown speaking calmly and collectedly to the general public. The head of the New Force movement expressed his dissatisfaction with the nation's leadership, saying that no leader has found a solution in the many years that the issue has existed. However, he believes that his strategy could permanently resolve the dispute.
Bediako addressed the public in his speech, outlining his plan to use familial ties to bridge the gap between the two groups and resolve their problem. "I will bring a princess from Bawku and a prince from Walewale, then put them to make a family," were his words. His main goal is to integrate the members of the two warring factions by doing things like marrying people from both sides.
Responses to Bediako's plan have been mixed, with some claiming that it should be accepted because it is both practical and symbolic of healing, while others have questioned its viability. However, his idea aligns with the larger objective of resolving one of Ghana's most persistent societal issues and demonstrates how creative and non-traditional approaches could be used to resolve long-standing disputes.
