The Minority brought up the question of quorum for the confirmation of yet another group of new ministry nominations on Thursday, causing a heated scene on the Parliament floor. Ablah Dzifa Gomashie, Minister-designate for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts; Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Minister-designate for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry; Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister-designate for Gender, Children, and Social Protection; and Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister-designate for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, were the nominees in question. The Minority questioned whether the new cabinet nominations could be legitimately approved with a sufficient quorum. Prof. Kingsley Nyarko made the motion, which argued that any votes on the nominations were unlawful since the House lacked the quorum needed to make a judgment. The New Patriotic Party, led by Matthew Nyindam
Nyindam started, "Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker." "I believe the majority should realize that we are here to conduct government business, Mr. Speaker. He defended the Minority's position on the quorum issue by saying, "No one is here to sabotage the House's work." The quorum concerns were a needless delay, and the Majority had accused the Minority of attempting to obstruct progress. Members must understand, however, that you cannot declare yourself prepared to support something and then claim you are not. Nyindam stated that the Minority's objections were reasonable and procedural, adding, "When you do that, you accuse us wrongly, especially when a member raises a legitimate concern that we do not form a quorum."
"We are still in the early stages. We are still in the early stages of our floor struggles. The supermajority is still in its infancy, Nyindam added, adding that in order to avoid needless disturbances, the Majority's numerical advantage should be utilized more skillfully. The MP then returned his focus to the Madina Majority member and urged him to change the terms he had used. Take a look at the full room. We would want to remind our colleagues—particularly the Honorable Member from Madina—that occasionally his word choice is inappropriate," Nyindam stated. The member who brought up the quorum issue was subsequently urged to drop the motion by Ahmed Ibrahim, the immediate past First Deputy Whip of the Majority, in order to avoid further delays in the legislative process.
