The Ghana Education Service and Police Service have been given three days by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to bring charges against a pupil who stabbed a teacher in Offinso in the left eye. Thomas Musah Tanko, the General Secretary of GNAT, stated in an exclusive interview with 3news' Daniel Opoku that teachers could not think twice about quitting their jobs starting next week if duty bearers don't take prompt action.
Mr. Tanko claims that he received a report from Asuoso Senior High School in Offinso on November 8. According to the aforementioned story, a student stabbed a teacher in the left eye after the teacher urged the lingering student to come inside the classroom. The teacher has currently lost his left eye, and the Ghanaian police and education authorities have not yet taken any action. The situation has infuriated the General Secretary, who has issued a notice of industrial discord.
Because of the loss of his left eye, the teacher will only have one eye for the remainder of his life. Who would pay for his medical bills and other expenses?” he inquired. Mr. Tanko cautioned, "That is why we are using this medium to inform the Ghana Education Service, the duty bearers, that if we do not hear anything encouraging by next week, we will decide the next line of action." In order to calm the teachers' ire, he urged the duty bearers to act quickly.


We wish to inform the responsibility bearers that they will be held accountable for their actions if we don't hear back from them by the following week. We shall refuse to take it easy and let ourselves be handled like animals. Educators are not creatures. "What has transpired is unacceptable, and we will respond in a manner that will shock the country," he said. He demanded that the injured teacher be given compensation. Mr. Tanko declared, "The teacher must receive any compensation that is due to him."
"The offending pupil must be held accountable, and the teacher must get any necessary compensation. This issue will never be left to rest. "We are here to remind the regional directors that we are keeping an eye on the situation at the national level and that they should take responsibility for whatever occurs," the General Secretary said.
