Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reiterated his pledge to lower mobile phone taxes so that Ghanaians may afford them. During his tour of Koforidua in the Eastern Region, Dr. Bawumia spoke to a sizable gathering and underlined the value of mobile phones as vital instruments for a digitally advanced country. He explained that his decision to remove taxes on mobile phones was influenced by the fact that Ghana's continuous digital transformation necessitates that residents have better access to them.
"With the grace of God, removing mobile phone taxes is one of my goals as president," he said. "We will remove the taxes so that the cost of mobile phones in Ghana will be cheaper," he continued. To make mobile phones more inexpensive in Ghana, I would remove the taxes on them in light of the work we are doing, the digitization, and the young work we wish to undertake.
Acknowledged for leading Ghana's digital revolution over the last eight years, Dr. Bawumia expressed his goal of making Ghana Africa's digital center. In order to prepare them for chances in the global digital world, he announced plans to teach one million young Ghanaians in digital skills.
