Police in Ghana have detained two suspected terrorists who were on a bus headed for Accra with a cache of weapons and ammunition hidden in their luggage, according to a story published by ghpage today. The suspects were apprehended at Kintampo in the Bono East Region during a regular police checkpoint. They were identified as Ibrahim Musa, 35, and Sani Abubakar, 29. Officers halted the bus for examination when it was traveling from Tamale to Accra, according to the police. Law enforcement investigators found many AK-47 weapons, rounds of live ammo, and explosive materials in the suspects' baggage. The operation's lead officer, ASP Philip Antwi, stated, "We were performing a standard search when we observed the suspects acting suspiciously."
We discovered guns concealed in their bags after conducting additional examination. The suspects were unable to offer a plausible justification for owning the weapons. Police officers detained the criminals and took the weapons out of the bus, leaving the passengers stunned. Passenger Akua Mensah remarked, "I was sitting directly behind them, and I noticed they kept whispering to each other during the search." Everyone screamed when the police discovered the firearms. We appreciate the police's prompt action. Four AK-47 rifles, two handguns, and more than 500 rounds of ammunition were among the weapons, according to police confirmation. The individuals may have ties to terrorist organizations that operate throughout West Africa, according to preliminary investigations. "We are collaborating with national security organizations to ascertain their relationships."
"Ghanaians should report any suspicious activity and maintain their vigilance." The accused were apprehended right away and brought to Sunyani's regional police command for additional questioning. Kintampo locals, however, have voiced worries about the rising level of insecurity in the region. "Terrorists going through here was not something we ever imagined. Yaw Asamoah, a local, stated that the police need to strengthen security and enhance patrols. The public has received assurances from the authorities that in order to stop such tragedies, security along important roadways will be stepped up. Next week, the suspects are scheduled to appear in court on allegations of illegally possessing firearms and ammunition as well as potentially being involved in terrorist operations. To safeguard public safety, authorities have asked visitors to remain vigilant and assist security guards at checkpoints.
