The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued a warning to offenders who are still at large: they will be apprehended, detained, and charged with the same crimes as those who are currently in custody. He emphasized that only death could prevent the police from apprehending people or groups who already have or plan to tamper with Ghana's stability in his remarks to the media on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, about police preparation to protect the country's peace before, during, and after the upcoming elections.
According to him, this was a part of his team's dedication to fully putting into practice "a master blueprint that has come to mainstream election security in this country for the first time." This blueprint has so far guaranteed peace in numerous elections at the by and district levels and will now be applied to the next national elections. "The cases of isolated acts of violence have been handled ruthlessly in compliance with the law, where we pursue the perpetrators, have them arrested, and bring them before the court," Dr. Dampare stated.
"A couple of them are still out there, but they are aware of our continued search for them. How long can you run and how long can you hide? That's something they should know. You will not be forgotten. If we forget you, we give you the chance to return and carry out your activities once more."
"We will therefore pursue you until we locate you as long as you are listed in our records as someone we are looking for. The only thing that might prevent us from pursuing you is if [you] die, in which case the game is over. Until then, we should be careful to know who we are searching for inside the situations that have occurred. The IGP emphasized, "We'll come for you, the few we haven't arrested, and you'll know that we've really come for you." We don't have a second Ghana, so we won't let anyone, individual or group, upset the peace in this country, Dr. Dampare promised.Ghana's elections are scheduled for Saturday, December 7.
