The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Faustina Elikplim Akurugu has been proclaimed the Electoral Commission's (EC) nominee for Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament. This statement on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, puts an end to months of disagreements between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) about the outcome of the constituency's election, according to a report by TV3 News. EC Chairperson Jean Mensa described the collation process's difficulties, which included missing pink sheets and material destruction, during a press briefing. She described how party members invaded the collation center on election night, disrupting the proceedings.
Beginning on December 21, efforts to complete the collation were postponed because three pink sheets were missing. Following additional efforts, the EC retook the elections at the Abokobi Women's Training Center, where a crucial pink sheet was missing. Mensa disclosed that the EC rejected a presidential training pink sheet that was inadvertently used by the center's presiding officer. The numbers from their tally sheets, however, were verified by party agents and matched the Commission's records. The presiding officer was finally discovered by the EC, who gave an explanation of the events that led to the instruction sheet's use. The EC was able to confirm the findings and wrap up the collation process with assistance from both NDC and NPP agents.
Ghanaians were reassured by Mensa that the result reflects the people's desire. Therefore, the Commission is happy to announce that it has concluded the collations and proceedings at the Dome-Kwabenya Constituency today. It has come full circle, and we are positive that the result accurately represents the people's will as represented at the polls," she said.
