The FixTheCountry and Democracy Hub movements' leader, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, has blasted the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their 2024 election campaign tactics. He asked in a tweet why the party's signature policy was the 24-hour economy rather than the "Operation Recover All Loots" (ORAL) program, which he feels could have had a greater impact.
According to Barker-Vormawor, ORAL, a policy put forth by John Mahama, the presidential candidate for the NDC, would have a greater chance of winning over voters. "ORAL is a bigger message than 24-hour economy," he said. What prevented the NDC from making that their main campaign? Opana would have received 27 percent. In order to hold corrupt officials accountable, the ORAL project focuses on reclaiming public assets that were purportedly embezzled during President Akufo-Addo's government. Mahama claims that the program would assist in recovering resources that have been stolen and putting them to work for the advancement of the nation.
By permitting companies to operate outside of regular business hours, the 24-hour economy strategy seeks to boost productivity and create additional job opportunities while also fostering economic growth. Although the goal of this program was to boost the economy, Barker-Vormawor feels that it lacked the emotional appeal that ORAL could have offered, particularly in a time when a lot of Ghanaians are fed up with corruption and poor leadership. According to Barker-Vormawor, Mahama might have succeeded in winning up to 27% of the vote if ORAL had been the campaign's main theme. With concerns regarding campaign tactics and the agendas of both main parties, this argument highlights the persistent conflicts in Ghanaian politics.
