As part of his nationwide campaign tour, former President John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has traveled to the Western Region. In order to strengthen the party's foundation before the polls on December 7, he has been interacting with the party's grassroots. He visited the Mpohor Community as part of his Oil City trip. He engaged the populace by outlining his goals and priorities for the nation. The Mpohor queen mother, for her part, laments the destruction that the community has suffered as a result of illicit mining operations known as galamsey. The angry queenmother claims that because of Galamsey's actions, the people in the primarily farming village are unable to perform their daily tasks.
The community's bad roads were another grievance of the queen mother. She bemoaned bitterly how the area's bad road system has made it difficult for residents to travel about. The queen mother started crying uncontrollably as she described the community's struggles to the former president.

Joy News, a Facebook page located in Accra, shared this information. Our forest reserves and water bodies have been severely damaged by illegal mining operations. Galamsey operations continue unabated despite government efforts to curb the threat. After vowing to risk his presidency to stop Galamsey, John Dramani Mahama criticized President Nana Akufo Addo for failing to do so. He pledged that the upcoming NDC administration would act swiftly to put an end to mining operations in waterways and forest areas.
