During a Nania FC practice on Wednesday at Nania Park, Ghanaian football legend Abedi Pele became irate. The three-time African Player of the Year, who also occasionally acts as the team's head coach, was seen getting into a heated argument with a player after a costly error in a video that captured the event. The 1982 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion was visibly irritated and blamed the mistake on the team's complacency.
The incident happened during a game in which Nania FC was ahead 4-0, which Abedi said caused a lack of concentration. Abedi gave the player a severe warning, stressing that in competitive games, such errors could have dire repercussions.
Nania FC is still committed to their ultimate objective of promotion to the Ghana Premier League in spite of the heated debate. With 22 points from 11 games, the squad is now positioned fourth in Division One League Zone 3. On Saturday, they will play league leaders Hohoe United in a pivotal encounter.
