Renowned Ghanaian entrepreneur Gabby Okyere-Darko has retaliated against Dr. Daniel McKorley, the CEO of McDan Group, after McKorley openly attacked the government for failing to prioritize the private sector. Okyere-Darko voiced his shock on his X (formerly Twitter) account, asking how McKorley could make such claims given that his own business had been fully backed by the government to oversee one of the biggest salt concessions in Africa.
At the Ghana CEO-Presidential Gala Dinner, Dr. McKorley recently expressed his annoyance at government policies that hinder the growth of regional companies. He discussed the difficulties he had when establishing McDan Group, emphasizing the dearth of government programs that assist business owners. Despite his achievements, McKorley noted that the government's reluctance to support local companies continues to pose significant obstacles for Ghana's private sector.
Additionally, McKorley expressed his dissatisfaction with the government's and even Ghanaians' lack of support. According to him, it is more difficult for local business owners to flourish since they frequently feel neglected and encounter antagonism. He described the scenario as "dangerous" and "difficult," saying, "Many times, it looks like we don’t support our own." Long a supporter of local companies, Gabby Okyere-Darko appeared sincere in her outrage at McKorley's comments. Okyere-Darko questioned whether McKorley's frustrations were really warranted, considering the significant government support McDan Group has gotten. Many people were left questioning whether the criticisms in his post were legitimate or if they failed to take into account the encouragement that McDan's endeavors had received.
