The General Overseer of Action Chapel International, Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, stressed the significance of electing capable leaders in Ghana during a sermon on Sunday, October 20, 2024.
He emphasized the important role that elections play and asked Ghanaians to cast their ballots carefully and sensibly, emphasizing that "to whom much is given, much is expected."
He warned against electing unfit candidates and stressed that authority should only be given to those with the knowledge to guide the nation toward growth, according to a report by Modern Ghana.
The nation's present administration has come under fire from Archbishop Duncan-Williams for giving close associates leadership posts in spite of their lack of qualifications. He claimed that this practice has been harmful and that it is partly to blame for the problems facing the nation.
He said that powerful people are given control while deserving candidates are frequently passed over for smaller posts, something he said "destroys a country." Those who are fed up with the ruling party will probably find resonance in the Archbishop's remarks, which he made to a crowd at Action Chapel.
Perceived as a barely concealed jab against the New Patriotic Party (NPP), his words correspond with mounting dissatisfaction with the nation's leadership and administration. Calling for a change in leadership, he framed the impending election as a critical occasion for Ghana and compared it to a war for the country's soul.
These remarks could heighten the already rising tensions surrounding Ghana's political discourse as the election draws near.
