Alive Chapel International's leader, Archbishop Salifu Amoako, has come under heavy fire from media personality and MC Yaa Yeboah for remarks he made after his 16-year-old son was involved in a fatal accident, as Ghana Web reported on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Two young girls were killed in the October 12, 2024, incident that took place in East Legon. The Archbishop's comments were deemed offensive by Yaa Yeboah, which caused a stir in Ghana.
Speaking to his congregation on October 20, 2024, the Archbishop emphasized that the tragedy was a regrettable event and asked people not to make too much out of it. “It was an accident,” he said. My son didn't have a gun to murder anyone. He got himself into a horrible accident, and neither his mother nor I are to blame. My name is the reason why people are talking about me.
Yaa Yeboah responded strongly to the comments on October 26 on UTV's United Showbiz program. She took issue with Archbishop Amoako's word choice, arguing that it minimized the gravity of the catastrophe. "If your son had shot these people to death, it would have been better," said Yeboah.
"Are you aware of why? Because if the boy had shot them dead, at least their families would have had bodies to bury—that pain, agony, and torture they endured before they died, that pain they endured while sitting in the burning car and watching people outside who could have saved them but were unable to do so because of the fire.
Using the Archbishop's power and prior remarks that suggested immunity from law enforcement, Yaa Yeboah further challenged his lack of accountability. Disappointed, she recalled that the Archbishop had once boasted about breaking traffic regulations.
This demonstrates that you have admitted to driving in this nation without a license or a license plate in the past, and that the police salute you when they see you," she said. The media personality went on to say that Archbishop Amoako ought to have exercised greater caution, particularly in light of his son's purported history of careless driving.
She was upset that despite previous occurrences being published on social media, no preventive action had been taken. “You knew your son drives recklessly, but you never warned him,” Yeboah said. Despite the fact that your kid is not a licensed driver, you did nothing to stop him from obtaining a car.
