Following his support of Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the 2024 presidential election, former President John Agyekum Kufuor has been the target of recent verbal abuse that Ghanaian actor Yaw Dabo has bluntly denounced. Dabo specifically criticized Dela Edem, a communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for making offensive remarks against Kufuor, including remarks regarding his disabilities.
YEN claims that Dabo expressed his shock at the content and tone of Dela Edem's responses in a video that was posted online. Regarding the need to respect national leaders, especially senior statesmen like Kufuor, he characterized the remarks as improper. The performer promoted politeness and respect for one another while examining the moral justifications of those who use personal attacks in political discourse. Dabo emphasized the former president's dedication to Ghana's growth when he stated, "We need to speak about people like President Kufuor with the utmost respect." He said that using Kufuor's physical attributes as a political joke was unacceptable and that it went against the principles of decency and respect for authority.
When Kufuor openly supported Dr. Bawumia's candidacy for president, pointing to his vision for Ghana and leadership abilities, the debate began. Although opinions on the endorsement have been divided, it has sparked contentious discussions among party members and political analysts. Particularly, Dela Edem's remarks have sparked a lot of controversy, with many Ghanaians denouncing their personal content.
