A family member of one of the two young girls killed by Salifu Amoako's son, Elrad Amoako, is demanding that the juvenile justice system be reexamined. The relative believes that juvenile correctional institutions ought to be modified to the extent that the severity of the punishment is proportional with the offense committed. Elrad Salifu Amoako was given a six-month term at a senior detention facility by the juvenile court today.
This came after he entered a guilty plea to eight charges, including two manslaughter counts. Speaking to reporters, the family expressed their inability to understand why someone who killed two defenseless daughters would only be imprisoned for six months. When it reaches a certain stage, I hope the country's laws will be amended. "You cannot murder two people and receive a six-month sentence," the relative told reporters.
