The casting of Hollywood actor Idris Elba as the lead in the planned movie adaptation of Chinua Achebe's beloved novel "Things Fall Apart" has received approval from Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli. The novel tells the story of Igboland's pre-colonial era and the late 19th-century arrival of European missionaries and colonial soldiers.
The novel's protagonist, Okonkwo, was portrayed by legendary Nigerian actor Pete Edochie in both the 1971 film adaptation and the 1987 miniseries. It has been widely criticized that A24 is now developing a new series under the 22Summers name, with executive producers Idris Elba and Gina Carter. This information was obtained by Naija News.
However, Omoni Oboli stated that since Elba is African, there is nothing wrong with him playing the major part in a Saturday interview with Channels TV. Africans are more qualified to narrate their own stories, the director continued.
"I don't see anything wrong with Idris Elba playing Okonkwo in Things Fall Apart," the woman stated. "Idris is a Black person. His father is from Sierra Leone. He is African, even if he has lived outside. That is, then, an African narrating an African tale. Therefore, I do not see any issues with that. I'm simply being truthful here.
