According to Ghana Web on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, who just finished her second attempt at setting the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest singing marathon, disclosed a troubling conspiracy against her during her first try in Accra. Speaking openly about the event, Afua described how she uncovered a nefarious scheme by some people who wanted to hurt her. She described how some people reportedly attempted to drug her in an attempt to thwart her attempt in a widely shared video. "I'll tell you everything," she said, highlighting the seriousness of the situation, "when they planned to give me a drug so I would collapse and they could put me in an ambulance."
Public outrage and condemnation had dogged Afua's initial attempt, with many accusing her of avarice and casting doubt on her intentions. She was able to overcome these obstacles, but not before she felt the impact of the critical remarks. "For a recognition that doesn’t have money, for a recognition that I’ve been tagged greedy and insulted, why would you even want to destroy me over it?" "What?" she asked. Notwithstanding the limited turnout, she thought back on the more personal and encouraging setting of her second effort in Kumasi, which she found satisfying. "I actually had time this time to evaluate myself. I enjoyed it because it was very intimate," she remarked.
Afua pledged to disclose more information about the unsettling plot in the future, despite being counseled to keep quiet about additional revelations. She hinted at a more thorough disclosure to come when she added, "I'll tell you everything in 2025."
