The Second Lady of Ghana, H.E. Samira Bawumia, asserted that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not shown genuine support or appreciation for the Muslim community, despite claims to the contrary. Speaking at a mini rally in Akyem Osiem in the Abuakwa North Constituency on November 1, 2024, she highlighted the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) track record in recognizing Muslim leaders, unlike the NDC, which has never fielded a Muslim presidential or vice-presidential candidate.

"The NPP has always chosen Muslims as vice presidents and has now chosen Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its presidential candidate," Samira Bawumia stated. "This shows the party’s genuine love and commitment to the Muslim community, and we ask for that love to be returned in the 2024 elections by voting for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP."

She urged residents, especially the Muslim community in Abuakwa North, to rally behind Dr. Bawumia and parliamentary candidate Nana Kwame Addo Ampaw Frempong, known as Chief Buffalo. Samira praised the NPP government’s achievements under President Nana Akufo-Addo and current MP Hon. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, mentioning flagship initiatives like Free SHS, the restoration of nursing and teacher training allowances, and the Agenda 111 hospital project. She noted Dr. Bawumia's future plans to make the Ghana Card the primary guarantee for tertiary loans, launch a women’s empowerment fund, and train one million youth in digital jobs.

Akyem Osiem Zongo Chief, Alhaji Sumaila Garibah, welcomed the Second Lady and her entourage, reminding the NPP of its historical ties to the area, with its first flagbearer, the late Professor Adu Boahen, hailing from Akyem Osiem. Garibah also expressed the community’s desire for further development.

The rally gathered notable attendees, including Eastern Regional Minister Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, Eastern Regional NPP Chairman Mr. Jeff Konadu Addo, MP for Abuakwa South Hon. Samuel Atta-Kyea, Fanteakwa South MP Hon. Kofi Okyere Agyekum, Abuakwa North MP Hon. Dr. Gifty Twum-Ampofo, parliamentary candidate Nana Kwame Addo Ampaw Frempong (Chief Buffalo), Municipal Chief Executive Dr. Alhaji Umar Babs Bodinga, and other NPP executives, Zongo chiefs, Islamic clergy, party supporters, and media representatives.
