In a viral video circulating on social media, two women working at a galamsey (illegal mining) site have openly declared that they will not stop their activities because they have no other means of survival. The women, frustrated by unfulfilled promises from politicians, expressed their refusal to leave galamsey without viable alternatives for income.

"We are tired of the promises made by politicians, promising us jobs but never delivering. We have families to take care of, and no other way to make a living," one of the women said. "Galamsey may be illegal, but it’s the only source of livelihood we have. We cannot continue to suffer in poverty while politicians only care about their own interests."

The women stated that they are not asking for charity but the opportunity to work and provide for their families. "We are not afraid of the law because we have nothing else to lose. No amount of money or promises can make us stop doing galamsey."

Addressing the political class directly, the women said, "Politicians, if you want our votes, tackle the real issues that affect us. Create jobs and provide opportunities for the youth. Don't just come with empty promises and expect us to vote for you. We won’t be fooled anymore."

The women admitted they are not proud of their work in illegal mining but emphasized that it is their only option for survival. "We are not criminals, we are just trying to survive in a country where the government has failed to provide for its citizens."

They rejected the idea of being swayed by bribes or false promises during the upcoming elections, stating that they will continue their work until the government addresses unemployment and poverty. "We will not vote for any politician who has no plan to address unemployment and poverty. We are the future of this nation and we demand respect and dignity."

The women concluded by challenging politicians to take meaningful action. "Politicians, the ball is in your court. What are you going to do about the youth of this nation? We are waiting for your actions, not your empty promises."
