Has the Church Failed Ghana? Voting with Christian Values

Despite the multifaceted contributions of the church toward Ghana's development, many politicians, celebrities, media figures, academics, other religious groups, and even citizens still claim that the church has failed Ghana. This accusation reflects a lack of understanding of biblical and historical Christianity in Ghana.

These critics must recognize that they cannot redefine the mission, responsibilities, vision, and goals of Christians, the church, or its clergy. Even under the most challenging circumstances, including tyrannical and military regimes, the church's mission remains unchanged. Politicians, in particular, should understand that they were not appointed by God to dictate the values and agenda for the church or its clergy.

The church's responsibilities were divinely ordained to benefit humanity and include areas such as education, philanthropy, submission to and prayer for authorities, and activism for the voiceless. In simple terms, the church's role is to raise leaders for society, provide comfort to the needy, uphold spirituality and morality, and engage with societal authorities.

Has the church fulfilled its God-given mandate in society, beyond its core mission of the Great Commission? To some extent, the answer is "No."

However, the church has established some of the best non-governmental organizations (NGOs), philanthropic initiatives, hospitals, multi-purpose buildings, and mission schools to nurture professionals in every sector of Ghana's national life. The church has contributed to the development of presidents, speakers of parliament, chief justices, traditional leaders, lawyers, politicians, celebrities, scholars, and philanthropists. Notably, the two key political figures in Ghana's history, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Dr. Kofi Abrefa Busia, were both products (trained ministers of the Gospel) of the church. To this day, churches like the Pentecost Church and Lighthouse Chapel stand as notable indigenous Ghanaian leadership examples with global impact.

Christianity has achieved these milestones through the church and its mission schools. Those who claim that the church has failed do so because they see it as following a different path—while they focus on materialism and manipulation, the church focuses on enhancing spirituality and society.

The church owns more multi-purpose buildings, companies, and institutions than any other religious group or organization in Ghana. Yet, it is often marginalized by politicians, celebrities, the media, academics, other religions, and the general public. This opposition exists because the church's moral stance contradicts the world's values, which often include vote-buying politics, greed, occultism, hedonism, nepotism, divisiveness, the distortion of proper human sexuality and family values, a disregard for life, and illegal mining activities like galamsey.

Despite the hostility it faces, the church remains steadfast in its mission and its positive influence on society. It does not seek compliments or recognition from politicians, celebrities, the media, academics, other religions, or the public to fulfill its calling.

Those who denigrate the church do so because they have failed to divert its focus from fundamental principles of development and spirituality to support their liberal, progressive, and leftist ideologies.

These are the significant contributions the church continues to make toward Ghana's ongoing development.

A word to the wise is enough!

Let those who have ears listen to what the Spirit says to the churches and to Ghana.

HERE THE CHURCH STANDS! For God and Country!

God bless our homeland Ghana and make our nation great and strong, bold to defend forever the cause of freedom and of rights.
