The government has received a petition from the Positive Transparency and Accountability Movement-Africa (PTAAM-Africa), a civil society organization, asking them to dismiss the chairperson of the EC and her replacements.
Addressed to President John Dramani Mahama, the petition lists several accusations, such as misbehavior, constitutional infractions, and financial mismanagement.
The acquisition of a new biometric voting machine and the creation of a new voter list before to the general elections in 2020 are cited in the petition as the two main issues.
This spending, which totaled millions of taxpayer dollars, was deemed unnecessary, according to PTAAM-Africa, because the 2016 voter registration and biometric equipment were already in place.
