Political analyst and senior lecturer Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere of the University of Cape Coast has responded to allegations that NPP Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti regional chairman, has transformed into a divine figure.
Political analysts say that after Chairman Wontumi is imprisoned for damaging Ghana's woods and lands, he can go preach while incarcerated.
The NPP lost another election via deceit, he added, and won another one through deceit.
Dr. Jonathan Asante Otchere said, "You won election by deception; you will lose election by deception," when appearing on ONUA TV.
“Wontumi has become a reverend, he said he will be a man of God, and if he goes to jail, he can go and convert people over there,” he clarified. Apparently, he has demolished the Akonta Mining grounds.
He questioned, "The forest he was working in was a virgin forest that gave it to him."
In the meantime, Chairman Wontumi is recognized as the proprietor of Akonta Mining Company Limited, which has allegedly been conducting illicit operations in the Amenfi West Municipality in the Western Region's Nimri Tano Forest reserve. There have been demands that Chairman Wontumi be prosecuted for his actions in the forest reserve.
The government said that although the mining business has a lease to mine in some areas of Samreboi, it does not have the mineral right to mine in the Tano Nimiri forest reserve anywhere.
Ghanaians were told that Chairman Wontumi will face charges for mining in a forest reserve by President John Mahama and the NDC.
