Sam George, the Minister-Designate for Communications, has told the Appointments Committee that he is concerned about the attacks on the clerk.
On Friday, January 31, 2025, the Appointments Committee clerk was the target of harsh criticism from Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the deputy leader.
According to his description, she is a National Democratic Congress (NDC) member.
However, Sam George posted on social media to voice his disapproval at the minority leader's behavior.
He encouraged the clerk to Parliament to bring up the matter with Speaker of the House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin.
He points to the affirmative bill's approval as justification for the minority leader's lack of authority to whip the clerk.
"I am appalled at the despicable behavior of Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin towards Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah – the Clerk to the Appointments Committee of Parliament of Ghana," said the message he published on social media.
This disgraceful conduct is inappropriate for an august house leader. I'm positive he wouldn't have dared to harm a male Clerk of Parliament in this way.
With eighteen years of experience, Madam Gifty Gobah is a worthy recipient of the respect her position demands. Everyone in society, including the Parliament, should strongly condemn such selfish and misogynistic behavior.
The Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, must formally raise the issue with Rt. Hon Alban S.K. Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament. After the House has passed the Affirmative Action Law, we cannot condone and be complicit in such uncouth behaviour.
Madam Gifty Jiagge Gobah, I and many more decent people stand with you. Be encouraged and stand strong with your head held high. Your poise and composure even when you were under the barrage of insults is remarkable. Such a role model for our daughters.
Be calm! 🦁🇬🇭
