In response to the damage done to the statue of the late President John Evans Fiifi Atta Mills at Asomdwe Park, Koku Anyidoho, the president of the Atta Mills Institute and a former deputy general-secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has responded thoughtfully and calmly.
In a social media post on X, Anyidoho expressed his feelings over the vandalism while urging optimism and faith for the country.
Anyidoho posted alongside pictures of the broken statue, "This just happened @ Asomdwe Park." My Bible says that I should thank God "in everything," not only in some things. "It is well with my soul," I'm singing too. I want God to continue to bless my beloved country of Ghana, and I give Him all the praise.
The incident at Asomdwe Park, the gravesite of the late President Mills, has generated discussions over the reverence for national monuments and the remembrance of Ghana's former leaders.
Named for Mills' legacy of harmony and peace, the park has frequently served as a focal point for introspection as well as debate.
