Richard Asare, a junior high school (JHS) 3 student, is presently incarcerated at Koforidua Local Prison for six months after being found guilty of sheep theft.
Richard, who has lost both parents, allegedly committed the crime in an attempt to obtain money to purchase supplies for his studies, according to a story published on X by EDHUB.
"The sad story of 18-year-old Richard Asare, who is currently serving a 6-month sentence at the Koforidua Local Prison after being convicted of stealing a sheep," the article described. According to Richard, a JHS 3 student and orphan, he committed the crime in an attempt to use the money to purchase school supplies.
"I am enrolled in JHS 3 at Tutu Akuapem. I needed some supplies for school, and my parents are no longer with us. I have no assistance. For that reason, I stole the sheep so that I might sell it and utilize the proceeds to purchase the goods. In the video that was connected to the article, Richard described how his mother passed away this year and his father passed away when he was eleven years old.
