The plan for an alliance led by Kennedy Agyapong is revealed by MP-elect Kwame A Plus; however, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong denies any involvement.
According to musician Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as A Plus, who was just elected as a Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) approached him about forming a coalition in Parliament.
Kennedy Agyapong, the NPP flagbearer candidate, allegedly made the deal, which included a pledge not to run for the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections if he joined the party.
Additionally, he is in discussions with the National Democratic Congress (NDC), according to a social media post by A Plus.
Though he says his heart is with them, he would ultimately support the party that offers him and his constituents the greatest deal.
"The Hon. Kennedy Agyapong-led NPP has formally contacted me to talk about joining them in Parliament. They will not run for the 2028 election for the Gomoa Central parliamentary seat," he wrote.
But the NPP has vehemently refuted the allegation.
Justin Kodua Frimpong, the party's general secretary, issued a statement claiming that the accusations were untrue and that "the NPP has not met with A Plus, nor has it authorized anyone to convey any message to him on its behalf."
A Plus won the Gomoa Central seat as an independent candidate in the 2024 parliamentary elections, defeating both the NDC and NPP candidates. His victory has made him a key figure in the new Parliament, where the NDC holds a significant majority with 183 seats out of 276 while the NPP has 88 seats, and other candidates hold 3 seats.
