For his nomination as the Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has received gratitude from Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

After discussions with the National Executives and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership, Bagbin was nominated. This is a major turning point in his political career, as he previously held the same position during the 8th Parliament.

"I express my sincere appreciation to the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, for the honor and confidence he has bestowed upon me by choosing me to be nominated for election as the Speaker of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic of Ghana," Bagbin stated, highlighting his strong sense of duty after consulting with the National Executives and the Parliamentary Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He went on to recognize the significance of the work at hand, saying, "This is a great honor and a heavy burden.

An obligation I do not take lightly. The principles of justice, equity, and respect for the rule of law that have characterized Bagbin's years of service will not be compromised in his work. As he reiterated his dedication to these ideals, he added that his leadership will always be centered on protecting the integrity of the Parliament and the people it represents.

Stressing the importance of Parliament to Ghana's democratic progress, he continued, "I am deeply humbled by His Excellency's confidence in my ability to lead the august House as we begin a new chapter in our nation's democratic journey."

Bagbin stated his resolve to keep working to develop Ghana's democratic institutions. His commitment to Parliament has been well acknowledged. The Ninth Parliament will function with the utmost transparency, accountability, and inclusivity norms under his direction, he pledged.

In his message, the Speaker-elect also expressed gratitude to the NDC leadership, saying, "I would like to take this opportunity to assure the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the people of Ghana that I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people."
