According to shocking allegations made by a netizen, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, Ghana's former sanitation minister, left the nation the day after President John Dramani Mahama took office. The claims coincide with ongoing inquiries into large sums of money purportedly discovered in her possession.

In 2023, Cecilia Dapaah and her spouse made headlines when they filed a theft complaint alleging that more than $1 million and €300,000 had been taken from their house. Public indignation followed this disclosure, with many wondering why a government minister would hoard such vast quantities of money at home.

In response, an investigation into possible corruption and related offenses was started by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Recent reports from the OSP have added another layer of intrigue to the ongoing investigation. It was revealed that a bank account belonging to Cecilia Dapaah’s deceased brother remains active and has been transferring funds to her accounts. The OSP has since seized millions of cedis from her accounts and frozen others, with transactions exceeding ¢40 million under scrutiny.

Adding to the controversy, an old video of Martin Kpebu, a private legal practitioner and member of President Mahama's anti-corruption team, has resurfaced. In the clip, Kpebu issued a pointed warning regarding Dapaah's financial dealings. Speaking on TV3’s Key Points, he remarked:

"I hope that she will be wise to preserve it because we are coming for it. When the case hopefully succeeds, investigations and possibly criminal prosecution will continue."

This case has reignited discussions about accountability and corruption in Ghana’s public sector. Cecilia Dapaah’s situation underscores broader concerns about financial transparency among public officials, particularly those entrusted with managing state resources.

With the OSP intensifying its investigations and new allegations surfacing, the case against Cecilia Abena Dapaah could be a test of Ghana’s commitment to tackling corruption. For now, Ghanaians are watching closely as the wheels of justice turn, eager for answers and accountability in one of the country’s most high-profile financial scandals.
