In Wassa Essikuma, Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality, Kofi Essien, popularly known as "Buffon," 24, was convicted by the Tarkwa Circuit Court to eight years in jail with hard labor for threatening to hurt his mother.
On both counts, Essien, an illegal miner who was also accused of causing unlawful damage, entered a guilty plea with an explanation.
In a statement to the court chaired by Mrs. Hathia Ama Manu, prosecuting chief superintendent Alex Odonkor stated that the 47-year-old farmer, Madam Agnes Boadi, was Essien's biological son and the complainant.
Essien lived in the same Wassa Essikuma home as the complaint.
