P.K. Sarpong, a popular writer for the opposition NPP, has told President John Mahama to go ahead and change the name of Kotoka International Airport and stop the theatrics.
P.K. Sarpong made this comments in a post shared on his Facebook page on 24th February, 2025. He wrote:
"Dear President John Dramani Mahama!
End this cantata show. We are not kids here. Stop hiding behind DemocracyHub, a group that is affiliated to your party to do this hatchet job for you.
The CPP of Nkrumah of blessed memory is an extinct creature. It died with Nkrumah. In fact, the NDC which you lead, was the beneficiary of the death of the CPP. Don’t we all know that the NDC is peopled mostly by CPP elements? Even you and your family members were CPP.
Mr. President, if you want to change the name of Kotoka International Airport, do so and stop these theatrics."
According to P.K. Sarpong, It is the intention of John Mahama to remove the name of Kotoka from the Kotoka International Airport and replace it with Kwame Nkrumah’s name. He asked him to go ahead and do it and let us have our peace of mind.
"Stop sponsoring these your party elements on this needless issue. What would the name change do for us as a country? Would it bring your promised 24-hour economy into fruition?
Instead of concentrating on the numerous pledges you made to us prior to the 2024 elections, you are rather embarking on this needless name changing campaign.
Kotoka is from the Volta Region, and the airport was named after him for pretty good reasons. If you find those reasons to be baseless, Sir, scrap them and do what flipping well pleases you and your party members. " P.K. Sarpong added.
He asked John Mahama not to play with our intelligence. He added that Ghanaians can read between the lines. Change the name right away to appease your desires.
"If the Ga and Dangbe people have no issues with the name change from a foreigner to another foreigner, who are we to oppose it?
Sir, the comedy must end. No need sponsoring these people to go to the Supreme Court over this. You are the president and can do whatever you want with the power you have, please. We are simply tired of these populist agenda from your stables!" P.K. Sarpong concluded.
