Two suspected robbers were shot dead by police officers in Ho, Volta Region, following a tense standoff in which they were discovered holding a local businessman hostage and demanding a ransom of GHS 34,000, according to GHOne TV's story from this Saturday.

Late Friday night, when Kwasi Appiah, a well-known businessman in Ho, called the police in panic, the event started.

Kwasi, 45, was reportedly attacked by the robbers near his shop in the town while he was returning home from a business meeting.

Demanding the substantial quantity of money, the suspects—Kwame Osei, 28, and Abubakar Ibrahim, 32—forced him into his car and threatened him with guns.

They requested GHS 34,000 repeatedly while pointing weapons at me. Kwasi recalled in an interview that they threatened to kill him if I didn't give them the money.

Kwasi's relatives called the police as soon as they learned about the issue.

After successfully tracking down the suspect's car, authorities began an operation to free him.

Kwasi was being held captive by the criminals when the police surrounded the area, and a heated negotiation followed.

But when one of the criminals tried to escape while shooting at the officers, the situation worsened rapidly.

They rejected our attempts to reach an agreement with them for the businessman's peaceful release.

"We are glad that Mr. Appiah was saved by the police, but we're wondering if there was any way they could have handled the situation without killing anyone," neighborhood merchant Kwame Asante said.

An investigation into the situation has already been initiated by the police.

The cops had acted in self-defense and in accordance with protocol, Superintendent Tetteh stressed.

"We will examine all the incident's details," he stated, "but the situation was dangerous, and the officers did what they had to do to protect the hostage's life."

The robbers' remains were brought to the Ho morgue for additional analysis, and authorities are still looking for any potential links to other criminals.
