A live broadcast on Onua TV featured the first public apology from renowned Ghanaian broadcaster Captain Smart to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. He makes this request in the midst of continuing debates about galamsey, or illegal mining, and its terrible impacts on communities and the environment.
Speaking to the esteemed traditional leader, Captain Smart conveyed his sincere apologies for any miscommunications in the past and urged Otumfuo to take serious action against Galamsey.
I apologize to Your Royal Highness Nana Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. We need you to help us stop Galamsey. "You are the only one who can assist," Captain Smart said, recognizing the Asantehene's leadership and sway in Ghana.
He reiterated that he is still the only journalist who has the guts to take on the galamsey scourge head-on and confirmed his commitment to doing so. He pledged that he will not back down in his efforts to bring those responsible for the illicit mining operations that have devastated Ghana's lands and waterways to justice.
Captain Smart's request for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II emphasizes how urgent it is to resolve the Galamsey issue. Public discussion about the need for more community involvement, tougher enforcement of mining laws, and better leadership in the fight against illegal mining has been rekindled by his apologies and call to action.
