GhanaWeb says that Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has reacted to Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga's assertions that Ayariga's style of parliamentary debates may impede government functions.
Speaking with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV's "The Point of View" on January 27, Ayariga called Afenyo-Markin's comments "exaggerated" and reiterated his commitment to supporting efficient government procedures.
He pointed out that Afenyo-Markin frequently exaggerates events beyond what is realistic, but he said that this is just a feature of his work.
According to Afenyo-Markin, he enjoys drama. But that's just him and that's how he works," Ayariga said, adding that he occasionally dramatizes things a little more than people can handle.
When it comes to approving the president's nominations, Ayariga emphasized that his goal as Majority Leader is to achieve results rather than indulge in showmanship.
Afenyo-Markin's forbearance was the subject of numerous messages and comments, he said, adding that the true inquiry should be how many ministers were authorized on that particular day.
Supporting the president in obtaining approval for all cabinet nominations is his main objective, he said.
The president's nominations were processed and approved quickly, Ayariga said, demonstrating that the effectiveness of his leadership should be measured by observable results.
Success in receiving ministerial permissions, he underlined, is a definite sign of effectiveness.
