Speaking on recent events in Parliament, former President John Agyekum Kufuor sent a firm message to Speaker Alban Kingsford Bagbin.

In a conversation with Asempa FM, Kufuor said that the Speaker's choices have a significant impact on whether there is harmony or strife in Parliament. Bagbin's recent activities have exacerbated tensions between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) sides of Parliament, he criticised.

Kufuor voiced concerns over the Speaker's management of parliamentary activity, particularly in light of the pressing national issues. In light of important procedures like President Akufo-Addo's farewell speech to Parliament and the planning for the incoming administration, he underlined that Parliament should continue to function throughout this transitional phase.

Especially at such crucial junctures for governance, he urged Speaker Bagbin to reevaluate some of his choices in order to guarantee seamless parliamentary operations.

The recent indefinite postponement of Parliament by Speaker Bagbin, the second in a short period of time due to a lack of quorum, comes after this. The Chamber lacked the bare minimum of lawmakers of Parliament needed to conduct business on the day of adjournment due to the notable absence of NPP lawmakers.

The Speaker indicated that parliamentary activity could not progress because of the NPP MPs' absence. In addition, he pointed out that the indefinite postponement was caused by the absence of any new agenda items from the Business Committee, which left Parliament without anything to consider.
