The results of the parliamentary elections in Okaikwei Central and Ablekuma North have been declared invalid by the Electoral Commission (EC) because of procedural violations and threats that its officials received throughout the results collation process, according to reporting from Adom Online.

EC Chairperson Jean Mensa stated the rationale behind this decision at a press conference held in Accra on December 19, pointing out notable shortcomings in the collation process.

31 polling station results were left out of Okaikwei Central, and 62 polling station data were missing from Ablekuma North.

Mensa said that the Commission considers it unlawful to declare winners without compiling the results from these locations and that any such statements made under duress are undesirable.

According to her, comparable problems in other constituencies would likewise go unnoticed.

Suhum, Akwatia, and Fanteakwa North have already had their recollections finished, and the EC is now examining issues in 12 flagged constituencies.

Nevertheless, the outcomes in Ablekuma North and Okaikwei Central are still up for debate.

The Commission intends to recollect results in nine constituencies: Dome Kwabenya, Okaikwei Central, Ablekuma North, Tema Central, Techiman South, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, Ahafo Ano North, and Obuasi East.

Converting collation activities to the Police Training School was made more difficult by the violence and unrest that plagued the collation process in a number of locations, notably Dome Kwabenya and Okaikwei Central.

Asserting that the results announced at voting places ought to be considered final, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has challenged the recollection.

The parliamentary elections in these constituencies are now more tense as a result of the EC's decision to declare the results void.

In spite of these obstacles, the Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring accuracy and transparency during the election process.
