Parents have been warned by Peter Attah Gyamfi, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), to get ready for their children's return to school in the event that the government does not pay off outstanding bills owing to senior high schools.

The headmaster of Pentecost Senior High School and the chairman of CHASS, who was interviewed on Koforidua-based Bryt FM on Tuesday, said: "There are two options: either you give your child enough food and money, or he or she stays home."

This caution comes as worries about the government's incapacity to cover continuing fees, food transportation expenses, and arrears for perishables continue.

In a December 31, 2024, statement, CHASS encouraged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to delay the senior high school reopening date, which was initially set for January 3, 2025, until the government's debt situation is resolved. Since August 2024, three previous appeals have not received a response, according to CHASS.

In spite of these reservations, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has insisted that senior high school reopening dates are unaltered. Senior high schools will return on January 3, while elementary and junior high schools will restart on January 8, 2025, according to GES's January 3, 2025, announcement, which also reminded parents, staff, and students of the academic calendar.

The statement added that GES is engaging the Ministry of Education for a speedy resolution of the concerns raised by CHASS. It urged all stakeholders to take note of the reopening dates and make the necessary arrangements.
