In court recently, Corporal Raymond Larweh, a police officer, described the challenging arrest of Pius Ayoma, a 23-year-old man who is charged with sexual assault, robbery, and attempted murder.
Ayoma is presently on trial for these grave accusations. At the time, he was employed as a private security guard.
Ayoma was characterized by the officer as a "slippery" person, which made the arrest difficult for the participating police officers.
While on patrol in Ghana's Upper East Region on February 8, 2020, Corporal Larweh and his squad were involved in the event.
It was said that Ayoma was hiding in the town of Fumbisi when they were summoned there. Larweh said they had been informed by an informant about the suspect's present whereabouts.
According to a young male and an older woman, Ayoma was not at the compound house in Fumbisi when the police came. In spite of what they said, the cops chose to search the property.
Although the officers were given access to three rooms within the facility, they were unable to locate Ayoma.
They tried searching the fourth room, which had a small padlock closed, but the young guy and old woman refused.
The officers struggled to break the latch and get inside the room as a result.
The officers noticed nothing odd in the room at first. But before they could depart, Corporal Larweh spotted a cardboard box beneath a table.
When he pulled it out, he found Ayoma at the bottom. He was about to tell his coworker when Ayoma shot him out of the blue.
There was a great ache as the bullet struck Larweh's upper forehead.
Even with his injuries, Corporal Larweh was still having trouble with Ayoma.
According to him, Ayoma is "slippery," making it almost impossible to keep him in place.
Nevertheless, following a protracted battle, Larweh was able to place Ayoma's head beneath his armpit and summoned another officer for assistance.
Following the arrival of the other cops to help shackle Ayoma, the suspect broke the first two handcuffs.
Because of this, Larweh and his associates chose to restrain Ayoma by tying his hands with rope before binding him with a third set of handcuffs.
