According to security expert Professor Kwesi Aning, the last eight years of the Akufo-Addo administration have been a "hellish" time filled with threats and intimidation meant to stifle his professional activities.

He made it clear that he was subjected to intimidation, including attempts to defame him and threats to his livelihood.

"I was able to write and talk earlier, and I slept peacefully," Professor Aning said. You see, no one threatened to reduce my pay or to call my previous employers to fire me. For no other reason than carrying out my training with the funds of Ghanaian taxpayers, the past eight years have been misery for me.

Professor Aning stated his hope that the new government will enable him to return to a more favorable setting where he can freely contribute to national security and share his knowledge without worrying about retaliation.

He emphasized that being able to carry out his duties without always worrying about being intimidated is what he most wants.

Professor Aning has already discussed his experiences with threats in public. In 2018, he said that he had been receiving threatening messages about his security-related media criticism.
