The return of all diplomatic and service passports issued during the previous administration has been mandated by the Ghanaian government.

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Chief Director received the directive, which was signed by Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama.

The recall is a part of President John Dramani Mahama's administration's efforts to expedite the issuing of official travel permits and guarantee their appropriate use in compliance with both domestic and international norms, according to the notice.

The instruction aims to prohibit the abuse of these high-level passports in order to preserve the integrity of Ghana's diplomatic ties.

In order to comply with the deadline of January 24, 2025, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to contact all holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports issued during the previous administration to return their documents.

A comprehensive verification procedure will be carried out to guarantee that the returned passports satisfy the most recent requirements for issuance eligibility.

The principal recipients of diplomatic and service passports are government officials, diplomats, and a few other high-ranking individuals who represent Ghana on official business.

Abuse of these passports can put the country's security and reputation at grave danger.
