The well-known Ghanaian preacher Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro has strongly urged political leaders to resign amicably before they are humiliated in public. At a talk at Alabaster International Ministries, the prophet cautioned against staying in leadership for too long and emphasized the significance of knowing when a season is gone.

Prophet Oduro warned against holding onto power in the face of declining support and influence, saying, "Resign and go home peacefully, or you will lose again." He emphasized that the qualities of humility and wisdom are essential for leaders, and that those who do not resign run the risk of damaging their reputations.

He went on, "Resigning is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of wisdom." According to Prophet Oduro, leadership should prioritize serving others over protecting oneself. Reminding them that history is replete with instances of leaders who suffered shame for failing to recognize when their time was done, he advised leaders to put the greater good ahead of their own ambition.

Prophet Oduro did not specifically name any individuals, but his message has been widely read as a critique of politicians who hold onto power in the face of waning public support or election setbacks, particularly in Africa.

Discussions concerning leadership and governance have been triggered by his speech, and many people have praised the speaker for tackling such an important topic.

“This is the message Africa needs,” one social media user commented, commending Prophet Oduro for his courage. Another added, “Leaders must learn to leave when the applause is loudest. Staying too long invites disgrace.”

Prophet Oduro emphasized that stepping down is not a sign of failure but rather a mark of maturity and foresight. “Leadership is a temporary stewardship. Bowing out when your time is up preserves your dignity and legacy,” he noted, encouraging leaders to prioritize their long-term reputations over short-term gains.

His message resonates with growing calls for democratic transitions and responsible governance, particularly in regions where prolonged power struggles often lead to instability. Prophet Oduro’s words serve as a reminder that leadership is about service—and true leaders know when to let go for the benefit of those they serve.
