It has been alleged that the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources reportedly paid GH¢70 million in 2023 to a contractor who failed to supply seedlings for Ghana’s Green Ghana project.
According to reports by the Ghana Chronicles 70 million cedis was paid to a contractor RP to supply seedling for the Green Ghana projects.
The information gathered from the records of the Forestry Commission indicates that no contractor supplied seedlings for the Green Ghana project that year.
Some Ghanaians under the post of the Ghana Chronicles has expressed their opinion about the developments, one X user stated, “ Scandalous reports like these make it clear why anyone aspiring to lead this country or serve in public office should be sworn in at the shrine of thunder and lightning—only the force of nature can cleanse the corruption and mismanagement that has tainted our institutions”.
Another stated, “To be honest the NDC formed ORAL to recover our stolen moneys. But I know at the end of their tenure in office they will also loot. We shouldn’t forget the payment of judgment debts and Woyome scandal. It was the NDCs handiwork”.
In 2024 the Akufo-Addo government intended to plant some 10 million trees under the Green Ghana Project.
Reports suggest the total number of trees planted so far in 2023 was 42 million with a planned 10 million expected planted this year it is estimated the number will rise to 52 million since the implementation of the project four years ago.
Meanwhile, there has been widespread news about the seedlings of the Green Ghana projects being left to rot after it has been delivered to some institutions and schools.
